It has been a while since our last changelog, and we have been busy. We launched RoTunneling VPN 6, a new generation of our apps, and we rebuilt a good part of the website. Here is a short summary of what changed.

Apps: RoTunneling VPN 6.1.0

The app is available for Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), Linux (Debian 12+, Ubuntu 22.04+ and derivatives, amd64 and ARM64), and Android (phones, tablets, Android TV and Google TV, Android 7.0 or newer). On Windows and Linux, installing it replaces the 5.x client, if you have it.

  • Faster connections: UDP acceleration and up to 32 parallel connections between the app and the server, tuned automatically.
  • The app finds a working address and port on its own, even on restrictive networks, and remembers what worked on each network. If a server stops answering, it automatically moves to the next one.
  • The network's HTTP proxy is detected automatically, with username and password support.
  • The MTU is adjusted live, for a steadier connection.
  • Live speed chart, session statistics and diagnostics, including a speed test to our servers when you are not connected.
  • Kill switch and protected DNS, which blocks known dangerous domains (you can turn it off).
  • The servers appear in the app as Romania 1 and Romania 2.
  • On Windows and Linux, the app lets you know when a new version is available.
  • Windows: we fixed an error when clicking the app on the taskbar.
  • Linux: the package is called rotunneling and replaces the old rotunnelingvpn. The rotunneling command controls the same connection from the terminal. The APT repository uses a new signing key; the instructions are on the downloads page.
  • Android TV and Google TV: the app can be used entirely with the remote, including the on-screen keyboard.
  • macOS and iOS: we signed the L2TP configuration profile.

Website

1. We redesigned the look of the website and rewrote the texts.

2. We rebuilt the registration, which now has three short steps: your account, your plan and your billing details. The account is created at the first step, and if you stop along the way, you can finish setting it up from My Account. You see the total, VAT included, before you pay, and the payment is made on the secure Stripe page.

3. The speed test has a new page, with a dial, a start and stop button and a recommendation for the right plan. You can also find it in the plan selection step. The test is optional.

4. We rebuilt the billing details:

  • You can be invoiced as an individual or as a company.
  • For companies in Romania, enter the CUI and we fill in the company details from ANAF.
  • For companies in the EU, we check the VAT number in VIES; if it is valid, the invoice is issued with reverse charge (no VAT).
  • The currency and the VAT are set by your billing country.
  • You can enter a coupon when you choose your plan. The coupon does not stack with the billing period discount: the larger discount applies.

5. Automatic renewal now works for companies too. We send clear emails about your subscription: before a renewal, when a payment does not go through, after the first payment and after a refund. You receive them in the language you chose in your account.

6. We rebuilt the My Account page. At the top you see your account status: your plan, the maximum speed, the devices connected now, the days left and how long you have been a customer. Below, you have the Status, Profile, Invoices and Referrals sections. Your billing details, contact details, password and newsletter subscription can be edited directly on the page.

7. Sign-in and account safety:

  • You can sign in with your username or your email address.
  • The sign-in and password recovery pages have a new look, and on the sign-in page you can show your password with a button.
  • We no longer send passwords by email. You receive a reset link, valid for 60 minutes and usable only once.
  • When you change your password or email address we send a notification. For a new address we ask for your current password, and the notification says which VPN server or IP address the request came from.

8. You can delete your account from the Profile section. The deletion happens after 30 days, during which you can cancel it, and a new payment cancels a scheduled deletion.

9. The newsletter now has its own list. You subscribe with email confirmation, and every message contains a one-click unsubscribe link. We write rarely, only when we have something useful to say.

10. On the home page we added the "Get past ISP blocks" section, with an animation that shows how the app looks for an open path through your network.
